It was in a small shop back in 1874 in Oporto that Manuel José Ferreira melted a string of gold and, with his bare hands, designed, shaped and created his first jewel. But it was only in 1934 that his two heirs, Gabriel and Silvestre create the Topázio brand in honour of their mother’s favourite stone – Topaz.
This timeless brand produces premium sterling silver and silver plated products using manual techniques that have been perfected over the course of 140 years!
Whilst it’s first “hit piece” was a large D. João V vase, it is well known for its “Art of the table” pieces including intricate tea and coffee sets, but also silver trays, wine coolers, napkin rings… But it has also created a unique collection of celebratory gifts for babies such as bunny, bear, horse and elephant rattles, as well as detailed owl book markers and letter openers for her and his and hers matching delicate knot cufflinks and bracelet.
To celebrate their 140th anniversary, the brand had partnered with local artists, such as Joana Vasconcelos, Pritzker Architecture Prize winner Álvaro Siza Vieira, designer Dino Alves, renowned street artist Vhils and Nini Andrade Silva, among others, to create a collection of one-of-a-kind commemorative pieces.
In Lisbon you can find Topazio’s masterpieces at Ourivesaria Torres.
