Established in the late 19th century, Gucci was born when Guccio Gucci, then an immigrant hotel worker in Paris, fell in love with the luxurious luggage he saw his guests come in with. When he returned to his hometown of Florence – a city renowned for its world-class artisans and high-quality materials – he established a fine leather goods store that maintained the traditional craftsmanship of Florence.
By the 1960s, Gucci’s merchandise was an international symbol, with celebrities all over posing with his clothing, accessories and footwear for magazines around the world.
Today, Gucci is well established among the world’s foremost luxury brands and, of course, has their own shop in Lisbon’s most prestigious avenue – Avenida da Liberdade, featuring only the brand’s range of accessories in a broad and luxurious space, with a fantastic natural light opening the way to the contemporary Gucci look of the 21st century. Only the brand’s finest in bags, sunglasses, watches, silks, belts, wallets and perfumes make it into this Frida Giannini-designed store, where classic Gucci materials like wood and rosewood add warmth and polished gold, bronzed glass and ribbed glass line the store which has large panoramic windows overlooking the Av. da Liberdade.
