With over 3000 bottles of Periquita wine lining the ceiling of its Chiado location, By The Wine is José Maria da Fonseca’s first flagship store, that aims to introduce to Lisbon an innovative concept, one that promotes the wines of a national producer.
José Maria da Fonseca (JMF) has been producing wine since 1834 and is known far and wide for its award-winning Moscatel wine – but the estate produces all types of wine, which are all available at By The Wine. The bar carries a fantastic selection of wines, including some unique labels that are produced in very small quantities and are incredibly hard to find. By The Wine also opens up the possibility for clients to try all the wines from the JMF portfolio by the glass.
Located in the historic neighbourhood of Chiado, just steps away from the main square, By The Wine is a great spot for some ‘petiscos’ (Portuguese tapas) and Spanish Tapas, be it after a long day at the office or before going for dinner in one of the cool restaurants in the block. Weather permitting, you can also take your drink outside. Among the different gastronomical options, one can enjoy rustic loaves of bread from the Algarve, bellota ham and cold cuts from Guijuelo (Salamanca area, Spain), various plates of cheeses (where the famous Azeitão cheese is, of course, present), oysters from the Sado region, mussels, salmon ceviche, carpaccio and a whole bunch of different desserts to accompany the Moscatel de Setúbal wines.
The bar sports an unashamedly laid-back attitude, where food and wine lovers can go to try some of the very best wines in the country.
It will also host a number of events, such as product launches and wine tasting courses open to the general public.
