Within a 15-minute walk of the hotel lies Avenida da Liberdade – Lisbon’s main avenue for luxury shopping.

Designed in the 19th century, Avenida da Liberdade connects Marquês de Pombal and Restauradores Square. The avenue’s design aimed to mimic Paris’ iconic boulevards and chicness. A wide green promenade, paved with the traditional, yet leafy cobblestone, where people went along the decades to see and be seen.

Having had its ups and downs in town, Avenida da Liberdade is now home to the city’s most exclusive international fashion brands. From Prada, Louis Vuitton, Cartier and Miu Miu to local luxury multi-brand chains such as Loja das Meias.

The lively atmosphere of this social avenue is back thanks also to the revival of the traditional Kiosks, that pop up along the alley.

The Kiosks play a key role in the area’s social life, working as friends’ gathering point and a spot to sit outside while sipping a cool lemonade and listening to a live concert.

Blend in and try lisboners’ favorite treats, such as “ginjinha”, a bitter almond liqueur (perfect refreshment served with lots of ice and drops of lemon on a hot day), capilé, Port wine, sweet Moscatel from Setúbal and mazagrã (a coffee drink).

The Kiosks also helped to re-establish the tradition of rich and creamy Orchata – one of Lisbon’s most popular refreshments in the 19th century, eternalized by Eça de Queiroz’ works – made with almonds and sugar.

Besides drinks, the Kiosks’ menus also feature a variety of sandwiches and snacks, for extra energy on-the-go.
