A country with an enviable history when it comes to well-being, India is a paradise for all those who seek physical, mental and spiritual peace. The Ritz Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon brings guests the best of a rich tradition internationally known for its dependence on all things natural, in the form of three exclusive treatments brought directly from Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai. One of the world’s largest and fastest-growing cities, Mumbai blends the excitement of India's business capital with the colourful history of old Bombay, a vivid representation of the paradox of traditional life coexisting with unbridled modernization.
In April and May 2015, a wellness therapist from the Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai will travel to the Ritz Spa, bringing with her the best of her art. Combining western techniques with ancient oriental wisdom and teachings, the Ritz Spa aims to bring guests, in the heart of Lisbon, the best of India. Since the age of exploration, Lisbon has had Indian spices, but now it’s time for their specialties – and very few things are better than the special treatments the Ritz Spa will offer:
Uzhichil, 60 minutes
An ancient Ayurvedic massage technique that uses warm herbal oil with a combination of invigorating and soothing strokes. It helps relieve muscles, encourages sound sleep and ensures silky soft and toned skin.
Based on 5,000 years of knowledge, Ayurveda truly is “the science of life.” This ancient practice begins by identifying the dosha, or energy force, that determines an individual's constitution: vata, pitta, kapha or a combination of the three. Personalized therapies based on a person's dosha enhance natural beauty and well-being, bringing balance to body, mind and spirit.
Apoha Mizra, 90 minutes
This treatment combines western techniques with Ayurvedic healing traditions for a therapeutic experience. It starts with a full body massage using camphor-infused oil. Warm poultices of medicinal herbs are then applied to the back, relieving tension and enhancing relaxation.
Camphor oil has a duel action of hot and cold, which has a balancing effect on the yin and yang energies. When first applied camphor oil numbs and cools the peripheral nerve endings, then warms the painful area as it stimulates circulation to cold, stiff muscles and limbs. This analgesic effect of camphor makes it a favourite oil to be used in pain relieving massage blends for sore muscles, low back pain, and arthritic pain.
Tulaa, 60 minutes or 90 minutes
The selection of Indian massages has something for everyone: Tulaa is a combination of specialized traditional Asian techniques, using medium to firm pressure in a massage that leaves the body and mind rejuvenated and refreshed.
