Chosen for its buzzing cultural scene and growing art market, Lisbon is the destination for the first international contemporary art fair under the ARCO brand - ARCOlisbon. ARCOmadrid is one the Europe's leading art events, and the brand will now host its first event outside the Spanish capital from 26-29 May 2016, on the banks of the river Tejo, in the Fábrica Nacional de Cordoaria, in Belém, with the participation of 40 art galleries chosen by the organisation committee.
Portugal, who has been represented in ARCOmadrid for many, many years, has been chosen for this new project as one of the most attractive cultural hotspots worthy of its own unique, high-quality art fair, which is stable and relevant in the international art circuit. Three months after the Madrid fair, which is hosted in February and celebrates its 35th birthday in 2016, the Lisbon fair will be smaller with around 40 galleries, as opposed to Madrid's 200, and will focus on individual artists and small booths, making it easier for independent galleries to participate.
